Jason Calls it Quits

1 million shirts officially came to an end today. Jason posted on his website an announcement that the 1millionshirts project is being discontinued. His reason:
I can’t build a business and run a non-profit at the same time. Both endeavors will suffer and it’s simply not fair to the non-profits involved, the gracious people who have offered to advise me and the ambassadors.
I’m glad he finally realizes that aid is not a hobby. Doing aid poorly is fun and easy. Doing aid well requires a lot of knowledge, time, and effort. If people really need aid then they really need good aid. If people don’t really need aid, then why are you doing it?
Update: A post from one of Jason’s advisers was written just days before 1millionshirts was ended. The author says much the same thing as this post and the ones listed below but far more eloquently. Aid agencies in Africa: applaud achievers but keep wannabes in check.
